CHALLENGE:
How to make changes and implement technology, while building management support and ensuring the solutions you are looking at can deliver.

The challenge is real, starting with resource limitations for key functions like the front desk, we have guest issues with long lines or delays, or simply just not having the self-service or technology tools guests want.   And lastly, we have to utilize the system we currently have while trying to avoid costly changes or upgrades.  So step one, let’s review some facts and numbers so management understands why you are looking at automation.  Then we will break down some options to consider on this journey.

Costs of No Automation or Technology

  • Cost of Front Desk, with benefits and time off 50k-60k on average
  • Only about 5% of guests get offered upgrades and amenity sales at check-in
  • Efficiency can be greatly improved by focusing staff on more critical points of contact than the front desk
  • 72% of guests want to use automated or self-service tools to engage with your property
  • Better data, learn more about guests remind them to write a review
  • It works 24×7 365, helping guests that lost keys and information
Costs, options, and how advanced technology help build a real guest-facing strategy:
  • On average your first Kiosk with integration, hardware, and support is around 30k first year
  • Year after year charges should be around $3,600 a year
  • The more Kiosks you deploy the less costly it can be
  • Mobile is still king, if you can’t do digital key yet use the mobile for communication
  • When you do have the digital key, a Kiosk is a great way to service guests and move them to mobile
Some technical things you will want to know:
  1. Integration is on the rise and any PMS worth their salt should have an API to communicate with outside systems.
  2. Kiosk or self-service terminals, have all the features for check-in, creating a key, and even getting a key if you have lost one
  3. Move away from Native apps, if you are an independent brand they just don’t get used.  Focus on key features if you don’t have BLE locks yet, use them for information and communication, and drive awareness and revenue. Ticketing, Reservations, and information.
  4. Data integration –  learn more about your visitor by providing incentives to answer some survey questions, see how they engage with your technology and in some cases see how your guests move through your property.
  5. Cloud-based management now you can expand services on any of these solutions to include meeting check-in, information, ticketing, and more.

With the right platform, you can expand on local revenue opportunities and increase new ways to engage your guests, etc. all through the cloud and centrally managed, as well as with easy AI and future tools that you can build a strategy around.
